Surrendering: A Personal Journey

In the chaos of life's twists and turns, there are times when we feel like we're swimming against a relentless current, trying to control every aspect of our existence. I catch myself in these predicaments at certain chapters in life, desperately clinging to the illusion of control. However, recently a series of events led me on a transformative journey that taught me (well, re-taught me) a lesson on the power of surrendering to the universe.

A New Beginning

It all began during a period of immense stress and uncertainty in my life. One day, everything was nearly perfect in my life and almost overnight, it all changed. It felt like I was losing everything that I had worked so hard for or invested my energy into, and it felt like I was losing myself in the process. After about a year of this happening, I said to myself, "none of this is yours anymore, you have to let it go." And from there, I began surrendering everything, even if I didn't understand why I had to let go of it. I knew that if I didn't let go of everything, that I would soon be living a life of misalignment.

Attachments and Pain

As often as I have to do it, surrendering almost always feels unsettling at first. Attachment is the root of suffering, but as humans, we naturally have attachments. It's so hard to release things, people, environments, etc. in our life because we have become attached to them. So my ego is always like "I want to keep this because letting go of it is going to be painful." I don't think that it's the act of letting go that hurts us; I think it's the fear of change that hurts us. We often equate pain with fear when the two are completely different things. Once we realize that change is safe, it becomes easier to surrender.

Finding Peace in Acceptance

As I began to surrender to the universe, I noticed a profound shift in my outlook on life. The constant worry and anxiety that had once plagued me started to dissipate, making way for a sense of peace and acceptance. Instead of resisting the flow of life, I learned to ride the waves, trusting that each twist and turn was leading me exactly where I needed to be. My personal quote for this season of life has been: "Relax, nothing is under control."

Embracing the Unknown

One of the most challenging aspects of surrender is always embracing the unknown. As someone who likes to thrive on structure and order, stepping into the realm of uncertainty can be both terrifying and liberating for me. But even with the fear, I do it anyway - not like I have a choice anyway, lol. Besides, the most magical moments in life often emerge from the unexpected, and surrendering to the universe opened up a world of endless possibilities. And I want everything that the Universe has in store for me.

Intuition

In these chapters, it's all about quieting the noise of my mind, the distractions from the outside world, and tuning into my higher self for guidance and clarity. Anytime I'm in a season of surrender, I go into hermit mode, fast from my vices, block out all distractions, and spend extra time in silence and solitude. By doing this, I was able to make decisions that felt aligned with my true purpose and who I was being called to become in the next chapter.

Embracing Impermanence

The Universe has a funny way of reminding us of the invaluable lesson of impermanence. Change is the only constant in life and that holding onto attachments only leads to suffering. By letting go of our grip on expectations and outcomes, we can find freedom in embracing the ever-shifting nature of existence.

In the midst of life's uncertainties and challenges, surrendering to the universe has been my greatest source of freedom, strength, and wisdom. It has taught me to release the illusion of control, trust in the unfolding of life's journey, and find peace in the beauty of surrender. May we all have the courage to let go of our fears and doubts, and surrender to the infinite possibilities that await when we relinquish control and dance in harmony with the universe.

Remember, in surrendering, we find true freedom.
